After, Katy of PECAC joined us as we ventured to Smallpond Studio owned and operated by Milé Murtanovski and Krista Dalby. She spoke about the expectations when writing your business plan and possible grant opportunities for the emerging artist. Once our break finished, the entire group met at The Edward in Prince Edward County and visited Gillian Chapman of the PELACFDC while she talked about the business side of the art world. After cleaning up the enormous mess we made, it was already lunchtime. All of the prints turned out fantastic! People on average took away about five prints in total. Our first colour was black and we had enough to time to do a second colour, brown. After a demonstration on the inking and pressing process, we began laying out several ink stations (about 6) and began working right away. Everyone had finished etching their copper plates during the last half of Week 5 and we were fortunate enough to have Chrissy and Kyle do most of the prep work for our plates before we began inking them. We want Spark Club to be a space for learning about the arts, for discussion about the creative process and for growing creative collections.A visit to Sparkbox Studio is THE perfect way to start your day. You’ll get behind-the-scenes insights into what’s coming up before anyone else, handmade art sent right to your door and more! Check out the different tiers! We’ve created the Spark Club as a dedicated community of artists and art lovers. We do this through sharing our creative journey, failures and processes. On Patreon we create accessible resources for artists, about being artists. Becoming a Spark Club member will allow us to earn an income that can support the continued growth of Spark Box Studio. We’re used to not drawing a salary but we don’t want to lose what we’ve built over the years. We’re having to pick up jobs unrelated to the programming listed above in order to cover costs, which as you can imagine, makes moving forward with these programs very challenging. They are about making educational programming that is transparent, approachable and actionable.Īt the moment the only programming that has a revenue stream is the Spark Box Gallery and it is minimal when balanced against the cost of running the space. All of our programs are about creating resources relating to the challenges and behind-the-scenes of being creative. Our dream with the Spark Club is to use your support to continue to grow our new programming - Art Discourse, Flat Files, Artist Confessional and Shop Talk, along with a restructured residency program and growing our new Spark Box Gallery.

We love running our arts organization and have poured our hearts into building version 2.0 throughout 20. Much of these were our pre-2020 business activities and sadly many of them have been closed down. Did we mention we’re also arts educators? Plus, we are both practicing artists creating paintings, prints, murals and community installations.
SPARKBOX ART FULL
The artist residency program was just one part of the programming offered at Spark Box Studio - we also have a full analogue print shop that offered community workshops and an open studio space to community printmakers. That program hosted over 500 artists in the 10 years of operation.

SPARKBOX ART FREE
We’ve been running Spark Box Studio since 2009 and are best known for our artist residency program, which offered affordable and free residencies to artists worldwide. Our names are Chrissy and Kyle and we run an arts organization in Ontario, Canada called Spark Box Studio. This is our fabulous Patreon community that helps continue creating art and art related videos!
